“Wesley” didn’t have any family or reliable friends to support him. So, as a junior in high school, he was living on his own – working as many hours as he could, struggling to pay rent, cover expenses like food and clothes, and pass his classes. On top of all this, Wesley liked school – he wanted to do well; he wanted to graduate and go to college. But in order to afford living expenses he had to work as many hours as possible, leaving little time to sleep or study.
Eventually a counselor noticed Wesley was struggling and referred him to Second Story. Wesley was part of Second Story for almost three years. With our rent support, Wesley was able to place more focus on his studies – to his great delight! He graduated with a 4.0 GPA as a valedictorian.
Wesley now has more than $20,000 saved which he is applying toward his college tuition. WE are so proud of him, and we can’t wait to see what lies ahead.
We have seen a profound increase in youth applying to be part of Second Story for Homeless Youth this season. Your support helps us ensure they have the support they seek.
