Over the past few weeks, the words “thank you” have been echoing through our programs. On behalf of our staff, the young people we serve, and the families we work with, thank you! Because of you, so many local youth and families received much-needed support throughout the year and their holidays were a little brighter.
The teens at our Culmore Teen Center were able to receive tutoring support, leadership opportunities, life skills lessons, educational and career guidance, and great snacks.
The youth in our after-school programs had a safe place to go where they could learn, go on field trips, get help with homework, play games, gain technology skills, and of course, enjoy great snacks!
The young mothers and their children in our residential programs had safe places to live and access to parenting classes, childcare, meals, and other resources.
Students experiencing homelessness or unstable housing could stay in school and also get to work and life skills lessons thanks to rental support and help with food and transportation.
Families with limited resources were able to take financial, parenting, and health literacy classes, connect with local community leaders and services, participate in food distribution, and receive backpacks, school supplies, Thanksgiving meals, and holiday gifts. Community members were trained to serve as ambassadors and advocate for their neighborhoods’ needs, including safety measures.
Teens in crisis were able to find a listening ear when calling our crisis hotline or a safe place to stay while receiving counseling and other support.
And finally, our dedicated staff and volunteers could focus on being there for youth and families in need, even as demands for our services grew.
On behalf of all of us at Second Story, thank you! Your support makes a direct impact on our ability to serve the community.
