A Virtual Tour of Our Programs

Second Story’s programs are located throughout Northern Virginia and serve young people throughout the entire DC metro area. We have program locations in Tysons, Culmore, Springfield, Annandale, and Fairfax, plus provide rental support to young people in individual apartments and homes throughout our community. Take a look at these photos for a peek into the spaces that host young people everyday, some of them 24/7, to provide safe havens and opportunities to grow and thrive…

Culmore Teen Center

The Culmore Teen Center began supporting youth in 1998 – nearly 22 years ago! The center provides after school support for youth 13-17 years old. We offer them a safe haven from crime, gang recruitment, and trafficking (all prevalent in this community) and help provide opportunities they might not otherwise have. We take them on college visits, bring in local businesses to educate them on things from financial management to career opportunities, and take them on field trips as well as help them with homework.

Culmore Family Resource Center

The Culmore Family Resource Center is one of our newer initiaves – it’s been around since 2013. We serve thousands of individuals and families each year through drop in support. Our bilingual staff help with documents, referrals to other community resources, and moving families toward self sufficiency. We also offer a computer learning program for elementary students, parenting classes, ESL classes, and host medical and legal clinics run by other local organizations.

Culmore Safe Youth Project

Second Story has three safe youth projects, one of them in Culmore. Our Safe Youth Projects provide a safe havens for 4th to 6th graders after school. We help them with homework, take them on field trips, and help encourage young people at this critical moment in their lives to make healthy, positive decisions.

Second Story for Young Mothers

Second Story for Young Mothers has been supporting parenting and pregnant young women aged 18 to 24 since 2002. Young women live in Second Story townhomes for up to a year and a half. Many of these young women have escaped domestic violence situations and are stuck in cycles of abuse, poverty, and homelessness. Second Story gives them a safe place to live and guides them as they find employment, save money, and learn to become good parents.

Second Story for Teens in Crisis

Second Story for Teens in Crisis is our founding program – it’s been around since 1972! Second Story for Teens in Crisis is a short term residential program. It houses youth 13-17 for up to three weeks at a time and provides a safe haven with individual, group, and family counseling.
