“Marie’s” parents kicked her out right after she turned 18. Marie was still young, unable to afford rent or find a full time job on her own, and she had no idea where to go. She wanted to stay in school and to graduate high school.
She ended up at a local homeless shelter, where she heard about Second Story as a long-term place for her to stay and learn about how to provide for herself. As soon as Marie had a safe and permanent place to stay, things started to improve for her. She developed trust with her landlord, who understands her situation and offered to let her stay even after she graduates from Second Story. She got a full-time job for the first time in her life, and even bought a car! Now she’s working on budgeting and focusing on some of her bigger goals. Marie told staff that, for the first time in her life, she feels like a promising future is possible for her.
