Delilah’s Second Story

September 6, 2017

Delilah“Delilah” had been staying with an older man for almost a week when her anxious parents finally located her. Delilah came to Second Story for Teens in Crisis so that she and her family could work on mending their relationships and make her transition home as smooth as possible. During her time at the shelter, Delilah and her family had access to group counseling and gained knowledge on how to make home a more safe and understanding place for each of them.

Delilah also spoke with the counselors about how she deserved to be treated. She admitted that she wasn’t always searching for healthy, respectful relationships, but running away from loneliness instead. She heard the counselors tell her the truth: that she deserved love and respect, and that her value wasn’t based on someone else’s view of her. Delilah returned home with a fresh perspective on her own choices and her relationship with her parents — she was ready to start again.
