“Bethany” was living at home, but without the type of support a young person expects or needs from their family. Once she turned 18 her parents expected her to move out. Bethany didn’t have the practical skills or maturity to live on her own, but she also wasn’t receiving any guidance from her family to get there. A friend told her about Second Story, and Bethany was relieved when she learned that she was eligible to receive our support. After working with her case manager to find housing, Bethany began attending college, working with our counselors to develop life skills, seeing a therapist, and eventually began living on campus after graduating from our program. She saved a significant amount of money and is on track to graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in engineering in a couple of years! We are so proud of how far she has come.
