Summer Field Trip Fun

Children at Playground

Summer is over and young people in our community based and residential programs are back at school. Meanwhile, we’re reflecting on a sweet summer made even more special by the generosity of community partners through some pretty amazing field trips.

Young people from all three Safe Youth Projects spent a lot of days enjoying local activities, many of them made possible by community support.

Here were just a few of our favorites….

Kids on summer field tripWe kicked off the summer by going to Celebrate Fairfax! The kids especially loved the carnival rides and rock climbing.
Kids on summer field tripThe Springfield Safe Youth Project and Culmore Safe Youth Project rock climbed at Sportrock Alexandria this summer! Some kids were nervous at first, but they conquered their fears, gave it a try, and loved it! Some of them even made it to the top of the 60 foot walls.
Kids on summer field tripWe went to the Georgetown Waterfront, played in the fountain, and watched the ducks.
Kids on summer field tripWater parks are always a favorite field trip. This summer we went to Ocean Dunes and Pirates Cove, amongst others.
Kids on summer field tripThe Springfield Safe Youth Project went to AMF Annandale Lanes because they donated two hours of free bowling!
Kids on summer field tripFinally, we wrapped up the summer by giving out backpacks filled with school supplies to our favorite fourth through sixth graders. We’re wishing them an amazing new year and are thankful we still get to see them everyday after school!

Thank you to everyone who made it possible for young people to go on field trips this year — there are even more not mentioned here, and each one was enjoyed to the fullest by youth in our programs. Until next year!
