Second Story was recently featured in two local news stories! First, we’ve been getting recognition for our back-to-school events during which we distribute back packs and school supplies to students in neighborhoods that lack resources and include many residents who live below the poverty line. Our staff and Youth Council volunteers partner with other local organizations to be sure all local students are ready to start the school year. A special “thank you” goes out to all of our supporters who generously donated backpacks to support our efforts. Together, we’re making our communities stronger!
In addition, did you know that Second Story serves as the lead agency for Fairfax County’s Opportunity Neighborhoods initiative in the Bailey’s Crossroads region? Opportunity Neighborhoods (ON) is a county-wide effort for residents, community-based partners, Fairfax County Public Schools, Fairfax County, and others. We work together to deliver necessary, accessible, and effective resources for vulnerable youth and their families. As part of this program, students from our Culmore Teen Center recently participated in a nature excursion coordinated by a local volunteer and covered by Annandale Today.
