On May 28, join your neighbors from across the Greater Washington region to make a difference where you live. Second Story is excited to join over a hundred other local organizations for Give Greater DC, a regional campaign celebrating organizations making a difference in the DMV! Our region has been hit hard recently. Together, we can step up and support our neighbors.
Right now, the future of local youth and families is uncertain. We know this to be true because we work with them every day. Too many youth and families in our community face homelessness, violence, neglect, and poverty — and the systems meant to support them often fall short. Our programs step in to provide housing assistance and other wrap-around services to teens, young mothers, and young adults experiencing homelessness, supporting them on their path to self-sufficiency. We also operate after-school programs and family resource centers and serve as the lead agency for Fairfax County’s Opportunity Neighborhoods program in the Bailey’s Crossroads region. Without our programs, many would have few places to turn.
In 2024 alone, Second Story housed and supported 131 young people and their children. We served 412 students through our after-school programs. We provided nearly 20,000 drop-in services at our family resource centers and distributed food to over 2,600 individuals.
On May 28, our goal is to raise $10,000 to help ensure that every young person has a safe place to live and the opportunity to build a brighter future. Will you join us? Any amount can make a big difference. Here’s how:
- $10,000 provides ten teenagers with a safe haven, warm bed, food, and round-the-clock support for five nights each at Second Story for Teens in Crisis.
- $6,670 can provide one high school student experiencing homelessness with a full year of rental assistance and support services so they can stay in school through Second Story for Homeless Youth.
- $1,000 can provide eight months of therapy for a young mother fleeing domestic violence through Second Story for Young Mothers.
- $500 can provide two months of food or $100 can provide two weeks of food for a family through Second Story in the Community.
- $30 can provide one trauma-informed therapy session for a teen in crisis.
As a small, local nonprofit, we rely on supporters like you. Let’s Give Greater DC and let’s create the change we want to see, together.
