Our CEO, Judith Dittman, recently was quoted in Teen Vogue and on The Center for Public Integrity website as part of Nathan Yuan’s powerful story “Gaps in social services are leaving homeless youth with ‘no good choice.’” Nathan’s piece sheds light on the struggles many young people face when navigating homelessness and an under-funded U.S. system. There are simply too many youth experiencing homelessness and too few youth-specific options for them. This is a challenge Second Story faces every day. We do everything possible to keep or doors open despite government funding cuts. That’s why we call on our local community to step up and help us fill the funding gaps. It’s up to all of us to be a part of a solution for these young people who are trying to work, stay in school, access safe housing, and steer clear of negative influences like gang activity, human trafficking, and drugs.
